University of Ladakh Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026: 38 Posts, Eligibility, Dates and How to Apply
The University of Ladakh has invited online applications for 38 regular posts of Assistant Professor across its Schools of Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Language and Literature, and Commerce and Management. The recruitment was announced through Advertisement Notice No. 01 of 2026, issued by the Office of the Registrar on 13 July 2026. Candidates holding a Master's degree in the relevant subject along with NET, SET or a PhD can apply online starting 16 July 2026.

Post and Pay Scale
The posts are for Assistant Professor on a regular basis. The pay scale is Academic Level 10 under the 7th CPC, ranging from Rs. 57,700 to Rs. 1,82,400 per month.

The notification also clarifies that the closing date of the online application will be treated as the date for determining a candidate's eligibility in all respects. Any qualification acquired after this date will not be considered.

Reservation Position
Out of the 38 posts, the category wise break up given in the notification is: Unreserved (UR) 1, Scheduled Tribe (ST) 32, Scheduled Caste (SC) 0, Actual Line of Control (ALC) 1, and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) 4. One post has been marked for horizontal reservation under Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), specifically a Low Vision post under the Department of English.
Reservation will be governed by the Union Territory of Ladakh Reservation (Amendment) Rule, 2025 (S.O. 77). If a suitable candidate is not available for the EWS reserved post, it will be treated as unreserved, so non EWS candidates may also apply for that post. Candidates applying under the SC, ST or ALC category must submit a domicile certificate in the prescribed format notified under the UT Ladakh Reservation (Amendment) Rule, 2025.
Eligibility and Qualification
The minimum qualification is the same across all advertised subjects and follows two possible routes.
Route A
- A Master's degree with 55 percent marks, or an equivalent grade where a grading system is followed, in the concerned subject from an Indian university, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
- In addition to the above, the candidate must have qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC or CSIR, or an equivalent UGC accredited test such as SLET/SET. A PhD awarded in accordance with the applicable UGC Regulations governing the award of PhD degrees also makes a candidate eligible for exemption from NET/SLET/SET under those Regulations.
Candidates who registered for their PhD before 11 July 2009 will be governed by the Ordinances, Bye laws or Regulations that existed at the institution at that time, and are exempted from NET/SLET/SET for appointment as Assistant Professor, provided all of the following conditions are met:
- the PhD was awarded through regular mode
- the thesis was evaluated by at least two external examiners
- an open PhD viva voce was conducted
- the candidate published at least two research papers from the PhD work, with at least one in a refereed journal
- the candidate presented at least two papers based on the PhD work in conferences or seminars funded or supported by the UGC, ICSSR, CSIR or a similar agency
Fulfilment of these conditions must be certified by the Registrar or Dean (Academic Affairs) of the university where the PhD was obtained. NET/SLET/SET is not required for Master's programmes in disciplines where the UGC, CSIR or a similar UGC accredited agency does not conduct such a test.
Route B
A PhD degree obtained from a foreign university or institution that was ranked among the top 500 in the World University Rankings at any point, by the QS World University Rankings, Times Higher Education (THE), or the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Relaxations
- Candidates from SC, ST, ALC or PwBD categories get a 5 percent relaxation at the Bachelor's and Master's level, to the extent permitted under UGC and UT rules. This relaxation is based on qualifying marks only, and grace marks are not included while calculating it.
- PhD holders who completed their Master's degree before 19 September 1991 get a 5 percent relaxation, meaning the required 55 percent comes down to 50 percent for them.
- Candidates with a PhD from a foreign university must submit an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi, wherever required.
Where a candidate's degree title does not match the advertised subject name, the University will decide equivalence on the recommendation of the Screening Committee, and its decision will be final.
Selection Process
Selection has two stages.
Stage 1: Screening and Shortlisting
The academic score defined in the notification is used only to shortlist candidates for interview, based on the criteria below.

Graduation marks are scored on a sliding scale, from 5 marks for 45 to below 55 percent, up to 15 marks for 80 percent and above. Post Graduation follows a similar sliding scale up to 25 marks, with a slightly relaxed entry point for eligible reserved categories. For research publications, 2 marks are given per publication in a peer reviewed or UGC listed journal, with 70 percent of the value going to the first, principal or corresponding author and 30 percent shared among joint authors when a paper has more than two authors. Teaching or post doctoral experience carries 2 marks per completed year, calculated proportionately for periods shorter than a year.
The combined maximum for M.Phil and PhD together is capped at 30 marks, so these two do not add up separately beyond that limit. Experience certificates must be issued by the Principal, Registrar or other competent authority and must clearly mention the nature and period of service.
Stage 2: Interview
Merely meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview call. The University may set a higher shortlisting criterion than the minimum qualification, based on the Screening Committee's recommendation. Interview call letters will be sent only by email to shortlisted candidates. Final selection is based solely on interview performance, and the academic score is not carried forward into the final merit.

The fee must be paid online only and is non refundable and non adjustable under any circumstances. Candidates applying for more than one post or subject must submit a separate application along with a separate fee for each one. An application submitted without the prescribed fee will be rejected.
Certificates Required for Reserved Category Claims
Candidates claiming ST, SC, ALC, EWS or PwBD status must submit the prescribed certificate in the format notified by the competent government authority, and all supporting documents must be self attested. If any certificate or claim is later found false or invalid, the candidature or appointment will be cancelled, and further action may be taken under law.
The notification has attached the following certificate formats for reference:
- Form X, a certificate confirming residence in an area adjoining the Actual Line of Control, valid for five years from the date of issue, for candidates applying under the ALC category
- Form PwD (III), a disability certificate for cases of multiple disability, for candidates applying under the PwBD category
- Form GEN EWS, an income and asset certificate for candidates applying under the EWS category, which must be issued by an officer not below the rank of Tehsildar and is valid only for the financial year mentioned on it
- The prescribed Caste Certificate format for SC and ST candidates
- Form B, the Domicile Certificate for the Union Territory of Ladakh, required for candidates applying under the SC, ST or ALC category
Candidates should start arranging these certificates early, since certificates like the domicile certificate and the EWS income certificate are issued by revenue authorities and can take time to process.
How to Apply
Online Application
Eligible candidates must submit their application through the online link available on the University of Ladakh's official website. Before applying, candidates should read the full advertisement carefully and satisfy themselves about their eligibility, since the University will not entertain correspondence on eligibility disputes later. The email address and mobile number entered on the portal will be used for all future communication, so candidates should double check these details. Wherever a candidate's name or surname has changed, documentary proof such as a marriage certificate or Gazette notification must be uploaded.
Candidates who are already employed must apply through the proper channel. An advance copy of the application may be submitted, but the candidate must produce a No Objection Certificate and a Vigilance Clearance Certificate from their current employer at the time of interview. Failure to do so will mean the candidate is not permitted to appear in the interview.
Hard Copy of Application
After submitting the online application, a signed hard copy along with self attested copies of all supporting documents must reach the University within the prescribed time, in a sealed envelope superscribed as:

Important Instructions Before Applying
- Candidates must produce all original degree certificates, mark sheets, experience certificates and category related certificates at the time of interview. Failure to produce originals will lead to cancellation of candidature.
