University of Kashmir Invites Applications for Lab Assistant Post: SC Category, Institute of Home Science
The University of Kashmir has opened online applications for one Lab Assistant post at its Institute of Home Science. The vacancy is reserved for candidates from the SC category who are domiciles of Jammu and Kashmir. This is Notice No. 16 of 2026, issued on 20 July 2026, and it is the third time this particular post has been advertised. The university says the earlier two attempts did not draw enough eligible applicants, so if you applied under Advertisement No. 6 or 13 of 2026, that application will not be carried forward. You will need to apply afresh.
Here is what applicants need to know about the post, the eligibility conditions, and how to apply.
Post and Vacancy
There is one vacancy for Lab Assistant, post code PGD HO 13, in the Institute of Home Science. The post carries Pay Level 6, with a pay scale of ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400. Only SC category domiciles of Jammu and Kashmir can apply for this round.
Educational Qualification
Applicants need an M.Sc. in Home Science with specialisation in Extension and Communication, with at least 50 percent marks from a recognised university or institute. The notification does not mention any additional requirement such as work experience or a qualifying test score, so we assume none applies unless the university states otherwise later.
Age Limit
Age is calculated as on 1 January 2026. Candidates must be at least 18 years old. The upper age limit is 43 years for SC category candidates. For those who are already working as regular, in service employees of a state university in Jammu and Kashmir, the upper limit goes up to 50 years. Ex servicemen are entitled to age relaxation as per government rules, though the notification does not spell out the exact number of years.
Important Dates
Online applications open on 21 July 2026. The last date to submit the form online is 10 August 2026, up to 4:00 PM. In service candidates who need to route their hard copy through their department must ensure it reaches the university by 14 August 2026.
Since this is a re advertised post with a tight one month window, it makes sense to keep your documents ready early rather than scrambling close to the deadline.
How to Apply
The entire process happens online through www.kashmiruniversity.net. Applicants first need to register themselves through the Non Teaching Jobs link on the Jobs and Recruitment page, using a valid email ID and mobile number, since these will be needed throughout the selection process.
Once registered, you log in with your username and password, fill in your personal details, educational qualifications and experience, and preview the form before submitting it. The university is clear that no editing is allowed once the form is submitted, so it helps to preview carefully and fix any errors before hitting submit. After submission, take a printout and note down your form number for future reference.
The application fee is ₹750, payable online only. Candidates with benchmark disabilities of 40 percent or more do not need to pay this fee. No other fee exemption is mentioned.
Reservation and Age Relaxation
Reservation for this post follows S.O. 305 dated 21 May 2024, issued by the UT Government of Jammu and Kashmir. A 4 percent horizontal reservation applies to Physically Handicapped candidates, in line with a notification dated 3 May 2017, wherever applicable. Candidates claiming any reserved category benefit will need to submit a certificate in the format prescribed by the competent authority.
Selection Process
The notification mentions that eligibility will not be scrutinised in detail before the written test, so candidature at that stage is treated as provisional. It refers to an OMR based written test, followed later by document verification for shortlisted candidates, and says the selection process itself will be notified separately. It also does not describe an interview or skill test as a fixed stage, only mentioning that appearance in any such stage, if held, does not automatically guarantee selection. The syllabus for the written test will also be released later on the university website. Beyond this, the official notification does not specify further details of how candidates will be shortlisted or scored.
If document verification does become necessary, the university plans to call candidates in a ratio of five candidates for every one advertised vacancy, based on merit.
Documents to Keep Ready
If shortlisted, you will need to bring a printout of your online application along with self attested copies of all supporting documents at the time of document verification, and carry the originals as well. If your qualifying degree is from a foreign university, you will additionally need an Equivalence Certificate from the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi. Without it, that degree will not be considered valid for this post.
A Few Things Worth Knowing Before You Apply
Candidates already working in government, semi government, or autonomous organisations under the J&K Government or the Government of India must apply through the proper channel and are expected to send an advance copy of their application so it reaches the university before the deadline. There should also be no pending disciplinary or vigilance case against such applicants.
No documents or details can be changed once uploaded, so it is worth double checking everything before final submission. Applications that are incomplete or not in the prescribed format will be rejected outright, and the university says it will not entertain correspondence on this. The fee, once paid, is not refundable under any circumstances.
Any updates, corrigenda, or addenda related to this recruitment will only be published on the university website under the Recruitment Portal. The university has clarified it is not obligated to publish these in newspapers, so candidates are better off checking the website regularly rather than waiting for a newspaper notice. There is also no provision for TA or DA for attending the written test, skill test, or interview.
Finally, the university has noted that this recruitment is subject to the outcome of any writ petitions pending before a competent court.
Bottom Line
If you hold an M.Sc. in Home Science with Extension and Communication, fall within the age limit, and belong to the SC category domiciled in Jammu and Kashmir, you have until 10 August 2026, 4:00 PM to submit your online application for this Lab Assistant post at the University of Kashmir. In service candidates sending hard copies through proper channel have until 14 August 2026. Keep checking www.kashmiruniversity.net for any further updates, since that is the only place the university will publish them.
